West Virginia Water - A Hands-on Workshop for WV Teachers
In every glass of water we drink, some of the water has already passed through fishes, trees, bacteria, worms in the soil, and many other organisms, including people...Living systems cleanse water and make it fit, among other things, for human consumption.
--Elliot A. Norse, in R.J. Hoage, ed., Animal Extinctions, 1985
If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.
--Loran Eisely, The Immense Journey, 1957
The West Virginia Water workshop is primarily designed for classroom teachers. The workshop will provide expert information and tools for educators to teach their students about the science of hydrology and issues of water quality and quantity.
Featured hydrology and environmental engineering experts will describe water management practices to preserve watershed ecology and ecosystems. Teachers will have opportunities during the workshop to practice using these models to describe, test, and predict watershed and water quality changes caused by seasonal, climate changes, and anthropogenic such as urbanization, natural resource extraction. The workshop will give teachers opportunities to work in teams to apply the hands-on activities and conceptual models provided by the scientists to adapt the material presented into lessons and lab activities for their students.
Workshop Date: Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM
